PM Anwar Extends Best Wishes to Malaysian Athletes for 2026 Commonwealth Games

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has conveyed his best wishes to the Malaysian national contingent as they prepare for the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the quadrennial Games will officially commence with the opening ceremony at The Hydro, scheduled to begin at 3am Malaysian time. In a recent Facebook post, Anwar urged the athletes to compete with determination and to uphold the values of discipline, integrity, and sportsmanship throughout the event.

Anwar emphasized the importance of competing with a strong spirit and maintaining honesty and dignity, noting that the most meaningful victory is one achieved by giving one's best effort. He also expressed his hopes that the athletes' efforts would be facilitated and that they would achieve success worthy of national pride, bringing glory to Malaysia on the world stage.

The 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games is set to take place at four main venues within a 12.8-kilometre radius of the city centre: Scotstoun Stadium, Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Glasgow Arena, and the Scottish Event Campus. This marks the second time Glasgow is hosting the Commonwealth Games, with the first being in 2014.
