Kuala Lumpur:Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasized that youth should not be seen solely as "future leaders," but rather as active partners in shaping the nation's direction today. This call was made during his speech at the Youth Economic Forum 2026 held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted the importance of the younger generation's involvement in addressing current geopolitical challenges and defending the nation's dignity. He urged them to see themselves as leaders working alongside others for the country's present and future.

Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari, Political Secretary to the Minister of Finance Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, and Perdana Fellows Alumni Association president Fanitsyara Kam Phon were also in attendance at the event. Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, cautioned against complacency regarding national stability and the dangers of allowing hate and racial sentiments to grow unchecked.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the downfall of civilizations often results from internal discord and a lack of unity. He warned young people not to assume the country will remain safe while harboring divisions based on race, religion, or region. Instead, he praised Malaysia's strength in its diversity and urged the youth to reject any provocations that could lead to division.

Anwar shared a personal story from his childhood to illustrate the importance of integrity and honesty, recounting an incident when his grandmother taught him a lesson about the wrongness of taking anything without permission. This principle, he said, has guided him in ensuring that government assets are protected from misappropriation.

He also expressed disappointment in those who defend corrupt leaders based on racial or party loyalty and urged the younger generation to reject such practices. Anwar called on youth to stand against any leader who abuses power for personal gain.
