Ampang Jaya:A private-sector doctor has lost RM300,000 after becoming a victim of an investment scam centered around a fictitious 'Kad Prihatin Siswa' project.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the 38-year-old doctor and her husband engaged with a man regarding the project, both in person and through WhatsApp, starting early in 2023. The man claimed the project involved 20 universities and approximately 620,000 students, offering lucrative returns to entice investment.
The doctor made five payments totaling RM300,000 into the suspect's account throughout 2023. An investment agreement was then signed, stating that the investment would yield a 10 percent monthly return for 12 months, with the principal to be returned upon the agreement's expiry.
Despite being registered as a holder of a 10 percent share in the company, the doctor never received the promised returns or dividends. Attempts by her and her husband to obtain clarification, dividend payments, and a copy of the stamped agreement were met with various excuses from the suspect, who failed to resolve the issue.
Realizing the scam, the doctor filed a police report. Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Khairul Anuar Khalid stated that no arrests have been made yet, and investigations are ongoing under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
