Kuala Lumpur:The increasingly sophisticated tactics used in drug smuggling necessitate the deployment of advanced detection technology at the nation's entry points, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He emphasized the importance of upgrading current systems to ensure that syndicate activities do not go unnoticed by authorities.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister stated that existing scanning machines at airports are insufficient as they were originally designed for detecting weapons and explosives, rather than drugs hidden using complex methods. As a result, new analytical facilities are being introduced to improve drug detection capabilities.
Prime Minister Anwar explained that the current facilities rely on outdated technology, which struggles to detect drugs concealed on individuals. To address this, new analytical equipment is being deployed, alongside the K9 Detection Dog Unit, despite some passengers' concerns about the presence of detection dogs. These new facilities have been installed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) as part of an initial rollout.
