Melaka: The government has approved an additional RM1 million allocation for every parliamentary constituency nationwide, to be channelled directly towards addressing urgent needs and providing immediate assistance to the people. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the additional allocation would enable local needs, particularly those involving welfare, basic amenities, and community issues, to be addressed more quickly without being hampered by excessive bureaucracy. He emphasized that the allocation demonstrated the MADANI Government's commitment to strengthening assistance for the people at the grassroots level.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar announced the allocation during his winding-up speech at the 2026 PKR National Congress at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC). The Prime Minister, who also serves as the Finance Minister, highlighted that the additional allocation complemented existing social protection initiatives, including the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), which collectively amount to RM16 billion.
Anwar reiterated that eradicating poverty and easing cost-of-living pressures remain priorities for the MADANI Government, with the hardcore poverty rate now reduced to 0.09 per cent. He explained that translating macroeconomic success into improvements at the microeconomic level is achieved through programmes that champion the welfare of the people, ensuring comprehensive support without marginalising any community.
Furthermore, Anwar urged party leaders and machinery at the branch and grassroots levels to actively engage with the public to explain the various government initiatives and ensure that assistance reaches those who need it. He stressed the importance of making sure people are aware of the available assistance and fully benefit from the various policies and programmes implemented by the government.
