Shah alam: Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS), or the Selangor State Development Corp, announced the strategic transformation of Plaza Perangsang in Section 14 into the Grand Mercure Shah Alam hotel. This marks the second Grand Mercure-branded hotel in Malaysia, expected to begin operations in the second quarter of 2026.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, PKNS chief executive officer Datuk Mahmud Abbas stated that the transformation is part of PKNS’s strategic mission under the SA Sentral project initiative, designed to bolster Shah Alam’s status as a modern and competitive city. The transformation was formalized through agreements between DPMS Hospitality Sdn Bhd and Accor, commencing a rejuvenation phase for Shah Alam’s city center.
Accor, a global hospitality group, has been appointed as the hotel operator, with DPMS Hospitality as the hotel owner. PKNS will remain the landowner and principal developer. This collaboration under the Grand Mercure brand aligns with PKNS’s goal to strengthen Selangor’s hospitality sector, supporting the Visit Selangor Year campaign and the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026.
Mahmud noted that the 27-storey building, constructed in 1998, will be repositioned from a conventional office tower into an integrated business and recreational destination. The Grand Mercure Shah Alam hotel will occupy levels 18 to 26B and feature 156 premium guest rooms and facilities including restaurants, a spa, swimming pool, fitness center, meeting rooms, banquet hall, and a dedicated children’s area.
The project aims to attract both domestic and international tourists and create new investment opportunities in Selangor’s tourism and service sectors. The transformation will also include modern office spaces, co-working areas, over 600 parking lots, and dining options.
Accor Indonesia-Malaysia Development vice president Rio Kondo emphasized that the Grand Mercure Shah Alam development will bolster Accor’s leadership in Malaysia’s hospitality industry, with the brand inspiring guests to explore local culture through premium accommodations.
SA Sentral CEO-designate Datuk Mohd Najib Ibrahim stated that PKNS is committed to ensuring the project delivers economic and social impact through sustainable development, job creation, community ties, and enhancing long-term state asset value. The initiative is part of PKNS’s broader transformation agenda for strategic, sustainable development in the state.
Mohd Najib expressed appreciation to all involved parties, especially the PKNS SA Sentral team, strategic partners, consultants, and stakeholders, for their trust and commitment in the transformation journey.
