PKR Names 10 Candidates For Sabah Polls

Kota kinabalu: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tonight announced 10 candidates from the party who will contest in the 17th Sabah State Election. Anwar, who is also the Prime Minister, made the announcement before about 5,000 supporters at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here, saying the seats formed part of the 23 constituencies that Pakatan Harapan (PH) would contest in the state election.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, two of the candidates announced are incumbents, namely Datuk Peto Galim (Inanam) and Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin (Karamunting). Meanwhile, former deputy finance minister II Datuk Yamani Hafez Musa, who is also the son of Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman, will contest in Sindumin, while former Putatan MP and Putatan PKR division chief Datuk Awang Husaini Sahari will contest in Petagas.

PKR has also fielded a new face, Datuk Ruji Ubi, a former senior civil servant who previously held several key positions including secretary-general of
the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Education, to contest in Merotai. Other candidates are former Kemabong assemblyman Datuk Jamawi Jaffar (Melalap); former chief executive officer of Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sdn Bhd Thonny Chee (Api-Api); and Libaran Area Fishermen’s Association chairman Abdul Said Pimping (Gum-Gum).

Also nominated are former economic affairs assistant officer at the Malaysian Cocoa Board, Romansa Lamin (Segama); and Rufinah Pengeran, a former teacher who will contest in Tulid. The list of PKR candidates for the 17th Sabah State Election announced tonight includes Datuk Peto Galim for Inanam, Thonny Chee for Api-Api, Datuk Awang Husaini Sahari for Petagas, Datuk Yamani Hafez Musa for Sindumin, Datuk Jamawi Jaffar for Melalap, Rufinah Pengeran for Tulid, Abdul Said Pimping for Gum-Gum, Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin for Karamunting, Romansa Lamin for Segama, and Datuk Ruji Ubi for Merotai.
