Kuala lumpur: PKR has expressed support for Spain's stance opposing what it described as unilateral military aggression against Iran and commended the Spanish government for upholding international law. PKR International Affairs Bureau chairman Dr Maszlee Malik said Spain, under Prime Minister Pedro S¡nchez, had taken a principled position by condemning the military action launched by the United States and Israel against Iran as unjustified and a violation of the United Nations Charter.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Maszlee stated that Spain has emerged not merely as a concerned observer but as a defender of the international rules-based order. He highlighted that Spain's firm position demonstrated its commitment to the principles of sovereignty and adherence to international law. He also praised Spain's decision to deny the United States access to its territorial bases and facilities for military operations related to the conflict, describing the move as an exercise of national sovereignty.
Maszlee emphasized that the action sends a clear message that nations should not serve as platforms for military operations that could escalate conflicts, but should instead act as guardians of peace and stability. He noted that Spain had also called for restraint and urged an immediate return to negotiations to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.
Spain's insistence on restraint and its call for negotiations underscore the importance of diplomacy in resolving international disputes, according to Maszlee. He stressed the need for the international community to uphold multilateralism and the rules-based international order to maintain global stability.
Furthermore, Maszlee called on peace-loving nations to support efforts for an immediate ceasefire and a return to negotiations facilitated by the United Nations. He urged countries to reject the use of pre-emptive military force as a legitimate instrument to resolve international disputes and continue to uphold the sovereignty of all nations, including Iran.
