Jelebu: A 10-year-old girl was found drowned after she was believed to have slipped into an artificial pond at Taman Eko Rimba Jeram Toi, Jelebu, near here, yesterday. Jelebu district police chief Supt Azizan Said reported that his department was informed about the incident by a 38-year-old local who is also a member of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) at 5.44 pm.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, initial investigations revealed that the victim was at the location with her family for a picnic. During the incident, the girl and her mother slipped and fell into the pond. While the mother managed to save herself, the girl sank to the bottom. The child's mother reportedly mentioned that she was not a good swimmer.
With the assistance of visitors present at the scene, the girl was retrieved from the bottom of the pond and transported to Jelebu Hospital for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, she was confirmed dead at 2.58 pm.
Azizan added that a post-mortem would be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. The case has been classified as a sudden death (SDR).
