Petronas Unit Secures Additional Gas Supply Via Thailand-Malaysia Pipeline

Kuala Lumpur: Petronas Energy and Gas Trading Sdn Bhd (PEGT) has secured an additional 155 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas supply via the Trans Thailand-Malaysia gas pipeline system, bringing the total to 400 mmscfd. This move aims to mitigate the effects of gas supply disruption following the Putra Heights pipeline fire incident by augmenting gas supply volumes to the affected regions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, PEGT announced that this additional gas supply to the Northern region of Peninsular Malaysia, including areas such as Bestari Jaya, Meru, and Kapar, has stabilized the supply lines and reduced the supply shortfall in both Northern and Central regions. Additionally, PEGT has provided an extra 86 mmscfd of gas to the Serdang City Gate for the Interconnected Klang Valley Distribution network.

PEGT is collaborating with Gas Malaysia Bhd to enhance the gas distribution network’s supply capacity. Initially, four power plants-Connaught Bridge, Pulau Indah, Serdang, and Kapar-were impacted by the supply disruption. However, gas supply to the Kapar and Serdang power plants has been reinstated, allowing both facilities to resume normal operations. Furthermore, PEGT has facilitated gas supply to Kapar Energy Ventures to support unit start-up requirements.

PEGT remains committed to ensuring the stability of gas supply and will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to achieve this goal.
