Kangar: The Perlis Football Association (PFA) is preparing to submit an application to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to reconsider and overturn the decision to expel the state association as an affiliate member of the national governing body. PFA President Zamri Ibrahim revealed this initiative following discussions at the PFA Annual Congress held today. He intends to present this request once the new FAM committee is formed.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zamri emphasized that PFA does not wish to apply for new membership but seeks the reversal of the previous expulsion decision. This matter was a significant topic at the congress, where Zamri was re-elected as the PFA President for the 2026-2030 term.
The expulsion of PFA by FAM on September 4, 2025, followed the association's failure to address issues related to FIFA directives. This included not paying salary arrears and contract compensation to former PFA Football Director Matt Holland within the required six-month period.
FAM had previously communicated that PFA could re-apply for affiliation after resolving all outstanding issues. Before the expulsion, in December 2024, FAM suspended PFA until the association settled the salary and compensation claims ordered by FIFA on December 4, 2019.
Zamri claimed that PFA was not engaged in discussions to address the debt issues and argued that FAM proceeded with the suspension and expulsion without prior consultation.
