Penang: The Penang Regional Development Authority (PERDA) has allocated RM50,000 to 200 pupils to help them purchase school supplies under its Back-to-School Programme. Its chairman Datuk Dr Shaik Hussein Mydin stated that the aid targets pupils from 18 schools and 27 villages in Seberang Perai Utara, focusing on those from poor and low-income families.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the initiative aims to motivate students and prevent school dropouts due to financial constraints. Each selected pupil will receive a RM150 voucher to buy school uniforms and supplies tailored to their needs. This support is expected to alleviate the financial strain on families as they prepare for the 2026 school session.
Dr Shaik Hussein Mydin emphasized that the programme aligns with PERDA's broader mission of supporting the impoverished, single mothers, and B40 families within its operational zones. The programme was officially launched at Midtown PERDA in Kubang Menerong.
