Perak Leads in Domestic Tourism with 10.2 Million Visitors

Perak: Perak has emerged as the leading destination for domestic tourists in the country, drawing an impressive 10.2 million visitors last year and surpassing all other states.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Tourism, Industry, Investment, and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee highlighted that this figure was derived from the Domestic Tourism Survey 2024, released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) on June 19. The data represents a significant 36.1 percent increase from the 7.5 million visitors recorded in 2023.

Loh noted that Perak registered the highest domestic tourist arrivals at 10.2 million, with Selangor and Pahang following closely behind, recording 9.6 million and 9.5 million visitors, respectively. He expressed his gratitude towards government agencies, local authorities, district offices, NGOs, traders, and the public for their collective efforts in promoting Perak as a leading tourism destination.

The report further identified popular destinations in Perak, such as Teluk Batik, Lumut Waterfront, Ipoh Night Market, Gunung Lang Recreational Park, and Pangkor Island. The districts experiencing the highest tourist presence included Kinta, Larut and Matang, Manjung, Kuala Kangsar, and Batang Padang.

Loh attributed the increase in tourist numbers to the success of last year’s Visit Perak Year campaign, which was marked by strong collaboration between state and federal governments. He emphasized the importance of maintaining this momentum, especially as the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 approaches, which will see vigorous competition among states to attract visitors.
