Perak Government Seeks Detailed Investigation Into Ipoh Explosions and Tremors

Ipoh: The Perak government has called on the relevant departments to conduct a thorough investigation into the explosions and tremors reported in several areas here last Wednesday. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad stated that the incident, which mirrors a similar event from October last year, has caused concern and alarm among residents.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saarani emphasized the need for a comprehensive report and study to determine the cause of these explosions. He made this statement during a press conference following the closing of the National Training Week (NTW) 2025 at the Ipoh Convention Centre (ICC). Saarani also urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified or false information about the incident, reassuring them that the situation is under control and no serious incidents have been reported so far.

The explosions and tremors were reportedly heard and felt around Chemor and Chepor at about 10.30 am on June 18, but the cause remains unknown. Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin announced in a subsequent press conference that the police would soon engage in discussions with relevant departments and agencies to determine the actual cause of these occurrences.

A similar incident was reported on October 21 of last year, when a strong tremor was felt in several areas around the city, including Tasek, Stadium Perak, Meru, Falim, Manjoi, Chemor, and Sungai Siput, around 11.06 am, accompanied by a loud bang.
