People’s Stability Compass: A Strategic Guide To Strengthening National Unity – J-KOM DG

Kuala lumpur: The People's Stability Compass is more than a government slogan; it serves as a strategic framework to safeguard the wellbeing and harmony of Malaysians, said Datuk Ismail Yusop, the director-general of the Community Communications Department (J-KOM). He emphasized that national stability is a shared responsibility of the government, agencies, the opposition, and the public, transcending any single political party or leader.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ismail stressed the importance of continuity in nation-building, urging leaders to focus on the people rather than political or partisan interests. He shared these insights during his appearance on Bernama TV's talk show, Ruang Bicara. He highlighted the need for the government's communications machinery to adopt creative and innovative approaches to help the public understand policies and initiatives introduced by the MADANI Government, particularly those aimed at strengthening grassroots wellbeing.

Ismail pointed out that while numerous initiatives have been rolled out, their impact can only be fully realized if the public comprehends the leadership's objectives and commitments. He acknowledged the challenges posed by public perception, with some reports being viewed as political propaganda. Following the 15th General Election, he noted that the evolving political landscape requires the MADANI Government to adopt a more open and mature communications approach, aligning with Malaysia's democratic development.

He emphasized the need to move beyond old mindsets and identity politics, advocating for mature handling of sensitive issues involving religion and race. The government's 'new nationalism,' he said, is based on confidence, patriotism, and unity rather than fear or intimidation. In dealing with challenges posed by social media, Ismail underscored the importance of managing information flow to prevent slander and manipulation, stating that effective strategic communication is crucial to maintaining public stability in an increasingly complex democratic landscape.
