Penang: Penang police have successfully approved 378 permits for the sale of fireworks and firecrackers for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations. Datuk Azizee Ismail, the police chief, stated that these permits were granted to traders who complied with the necessary regulations and received official police approval to conduct sales during the festive season.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Azizee Ismail revealed that, to date, 11 permit applications have been rejected, and three remain under review. He assured that there have been no reports of traders selling fireworks without a permit. Police operations to monitor and inspect fireworks vendors are ongoing to ensure adherence to established regulations. These operations will continue throughout the Aidilfitri period to prevent illegal sales.
In a related development, police are finalizing an investigation involving independent preacher Zamri Vinoth. The case pertains to criminal intimidation and mischief against his vehicle, an incident that occurred on March 7. The investigation is being conducted under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which addresses criminal threats, and Section 427, which pertains to mischief. Zamri had posted a 19-second video on Facebook showing his car being confronted by men on a motorcycle, followed by an altercation where the vehicle collided with the motorcycle.
