Penang: The Penang Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) seized various counterfeit luxury brand goods worth RM36,642 in a raid at a business premises in Perda, here yesterday. Its director S. Jegan stated that the operation was executed following a complaint from the Public Complaints Bureau (BPA) and included two representatives from Global Trade Shields (GTS).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the raid occurred at 11.30 am, uncovering the premises’ illegal sale of luxury items such as handbags, shoes, wallets, and women’s headscarves. Initial findings revealed the sale of items from five renowned brands under GTS-Louis Vuitton (LV), Yves Saint Laurent (YSL), Gucci, Balenciaga, and Chanel-were on display. However, further inspection confirmed these goods were counterfeit, breaching Section 102(1)(c) of the Trademark Act 2019 (Act 815).
In response, KPDN seized 171 counterfeit luxury items, including shoes, handbags, headscarves, and wallets, all valued at RM36,642, along with several business documents to aid the investigation. The statement of the business owner, a local woman, was recorded after she arrived at the premises upon being contacted to assist in the ongoing investigation.
