Penang Eyes Growth in AI and Data Centers from US Investment Mission

Penang:The state has identified promising investment opportunities in the United States, focusing on sectors such as artificial intelligence technology and data centers, according to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the recent investment mission to the US provided a positive outlook, with many companies showing interest in the expanding AI ecosystem. Chow expressed confidence in the successful outcomes of this mission, anticipating future investments after companies conduct further studies and decision-making regarding deals and the local ecosystem.

Chow's remarks were made following the Malaysia MedTech Industry Summit 2026, where he was joined by Medical Device Authority chief executive Datuk Dr. P. Muralitharan and Malaysia Investment Development Authority executive director Surayu Susah.

The investment and trade mission, led by Chow from September 28 to October 5, aimed to strengthen ties with American investors and attract new investments to Penang. Organized by InvestPenang, the mission sought to renew and deepen relationships with American corporate headquarters.

Chow highlighted the encouraging feedback from current investors in Penang, who are considering expanding their operations. He emphasized the importance of both attracting new investors and supporting existing ones in their expansion plans, addressing needs such as land, talent development, and infrastructure.

Penang remains an attractive destination due to its infrastructure, strong ecosystem, and talent development initiatives. The state government plans to continue engaging with potential investors and assist existing companies in navigating the opportunities within Penang's ecosystem.
