Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described the sacrifices of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) as the pillar that supports the peace and prosperity of the nation. Hence, in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan, he called on the public, especially Muslims, to reflect on and appreciate the sacrifices made by police personnel who work day and night to ensure that they can worship and live their lives in peace.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted the importance of appreciating the efforts of PDRM in maintaining peace. He expressed gratitude for the services and sacrifices made for Malaysia, emphasizing the nation’s responsibility to acknowledge these contributions on his Facebook post. Anwar also wished Happy 218th Police Day, hoping that PDRM would continue to excel in its duties and that the nation would enjoy lasting peace and prosperity.
Anwar remarked on the history of PDRM, noting its inception with the Home Guard on March 25, 1807, and its crucial role in upholding law and public order. He referenced the historical role of the police force dating back to the Melaka Sultanate era, evolving through the establishment of the modern police force, starting in Penang and expanding to other states with the formation of the Straits Settlements Police Force in 1871.
The Prime Minister further elaborated on PDRM’s agility and competence during the Communist threat in the Emergency era (1948-1960) and subsequent threats of terrorism. Through its Special Branch, PDRM effectively gathered intelligence and executed operations that neutralised threats, ensuring national stability and peace for the populace.
On the regional front, Anwar highlighted PDRM’s ongoing cooperation with ASEAN countries through platforms like ASEANAPOL and INTERPOL. These collaborations are vital for maintaining regional stability, especially in addressing transnational crime and cybersecurity threats.
