Padi Planting On Track As Water Supply Stabilises – MADA

Mada: The increasingly stable water supply in areas under the Muda Agricultural Development Authority is boosting farmers' confidence, with padi cultivation for the 2026 Season 1 crop progressing according to schedule.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MADA stated that the pre-sowing stage had reached 99.5 per cent, while land preparation stood at 84.8 per cent and planting activities at 12.5 per cent as of June 3. The adequate water supply in padi fields has enabled pre-sowing, land preparation, and planting activities to proceed smoothly.

As of June 3, the combined water storage level at the three reservoirs under MADA's supervision stood at 504,535 acre-feet, equivalent to 41.25 per cent of total capacity. MADA also reported cumulative average rainfall of 637 millimetres in the Muda area as of June 2, while controlled water releases from Pedu and Ahning dams are continuing to ensure stable and sufficient supply for domestic and industrial use.

'We will continue monitoring water levels and planting activities to ensure the 2026 Season 1 crop progresses smoothly and padi productivity in the MADA granary area is maintained,' read the statement. It also urged farmers to use available water resources prudently and efficiently to avoid wastage and ensure irrigation needs are met throughout the season.
