Gopeng: Police have received seven reports of fraud involving orders for kuih and food, resulting in losses of over RM300,000 in Perak. Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Noordin revealed that the scams involve deceiving bakery and catering businesses with false orders.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the perpetrators placed initial orders with these businesses, allowing them time to prepare. Subsequently, they requested additional items not typically produced by the operators, providing a contact number purportedly belonging to another supplier.
When business operators reached out to this secondary contact, the individual agreed to supply the items but required upfront payment. Several operators fell victim to this request, and after transferring funds, they found themselves unable to reach the supposed supplier, realizing only then that they had been scammed.
Datuk Noor Hisam Noordin shared these details during a media conference following the launch of Ops Selamat 26 in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026 celebration at the Gopeng Rural Transformation Centre (RTC).
