FAMA Targets RM40 Million Sales Goal Through Semarak Syawal Farmers’ Market Programme

Ampangan: The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) has set a target of RM40 million in total sales from its Semarak Syawal Farmers' Market programme, which spans a duration of seven days nationwide.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, FAMA chairman Aminuddin Zulkipli announced that the programme, running from March 14 to 20, will cover 722 locations across the country. These locations include farmers' markets, permanent sites, Medan Niaga Satok in Sarawak, Rural Transformation Centres, and Agro Bazar Kedai Rakyat and Agro Bazar Rakyat. The initiative is designed to provide the public with access to essential goods at affordable prices before the festive season, while also presenting a diverse selection of fresh agricultural produce.

Aminuddin highlighted that the programme has been met with positive responses, noting that the supply has been steady, which helps keep prices stable ahead of Aidilfitri. The initiative serves as a platform for farmers and agro-entrepreneurs to increase their sales and expand their market reach. He reported that traders are adhering to the set prices, with some even offering goods below market rates. He advised the public against panic buying.

Speaking at the Ampangan Farmers' Market event, which was attended by Ampangan assemblywoman Tengku Zamrah Tengku Sulaiman, Aminuddin emphasized the Agro MADANI combo offer of chicken, eggs, and vegetables for RM10, reduced from RM17.50. Additional promotions include meat priced at RM28 per kg, down from RM38, and spent hens available for RM10 each.

Addressing concerns about potential price increases due to the West Asia conflict, Aminuddin assured that the domestic food supply and prices remain stable. He stated that FAMA is actively working to ensure sufficient supply chains through diversified sourcing to prevent future disruptions. 'If external disruptions occur, we will identify the cause and seek alternative sources to maintain price stability,' he added.
