Over RM26 Billion Collected in Vehicle Duties for 2022-2024


Kuala lumpur: The total collection of import and excise duties on motor vehicles and motor vehicle spare parts for the period 2022 to 2024 amounted to RM26.47 billion, according to the Ministry of Finance (MOF).



According to BERNAMA News Agency, in a written reply published on the Dewan Rakyat portal, the ministry reported that RM25.15 billion of the total amount was derived from import and excise duties on motor vehicles. Additionally, RM1.32 billion was collected from duties on motor vehicle spare parts.



The MOF explained that import and excise duties represent indirect tax revenues gathered by the Customs Department under the provisions of the Customs Act 1967 and the Excise Act 1976. The collected revenue is allocated to the Consolidated Fund and utilized to support various government development programs, projects, and operating expenditures.



The ministry provided this information in response to a question posed by Salamiah Mohd Nor (PN-Temerloh) concerning the total collection of road tax, import tax, and excise duties on motor vehicles from 2022 to 2024.



Furthermore, the MOF stated that based on data from the Road Transport Department (RTD), the total collection of Motor Vehicle Licence fees for the same period reached RM9.83 billion.
