Over 9,000 Malaysians Trained in BIM to Foster Construction Digitalisation

Kuala lumpur: A total of 9,375 individuals have completed Building Information Modelling (BIM) training, furthering the digitalisation of Malaysia's construction industry through platforms like the myBIM Centre and the myBIM Satellite network. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi highlighted this achievement and its significance at the inauguration of the Persatuan Kontraktor Bumiputera Malaysia (PKBM) myBIM Satellite Centre.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the training figure includes participants of phased programs by the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB). Under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) for 2026-2030, over RM430 billion is allocated for national development, encompassing infrastructure and construction projects. Modern technologies, including the Industrialised Building System and BIM, are pivotal for enhancing productivity, speeding project completion, and reducing wastage and costs.

Nanta emphasized BIM's role as an integrated approach for systematic planning, coordination, and project management, which allows early identification of technical issues, minimizing delays, cost overruns, and rework, while enhancing construction quality and delivery efficiency. The construction sector is projected to drive national economic growth with a five per cent annual growth target during the 13MP period, achievable through efficient, integrated technology-driven work practices.

Acknowledging challenges faced by local contractors, especially SMEs, Nanta stressed the need for structured and inclusive capacity building. CIDB Malaysia is tasked with shaping policies, developing training modules, and promoting technology adoption and best practices. Sustained collaboration among government, agencies, training institutions, and industry players is deemed essential, alongside appropriate training platforms and facilities.

Nanta called for strengthened strategic cooperation between CIDB, industry players, and associations to ensure a comprehensive and systematic transformation of the construction industry with impactful outcomes.
