Over 60 Global Sumud Flotilla Vessels To Sail Towards Gaza Today

Augusta: More than 60 Italian and Spanish vessels under the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), currently docked at the port of Augusta, Italy, will set sail for Gaza today in a mission aimed at breaking the blockade on the Palestinian territory.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, GSF stated in a declaration that the flotilla would sail "with a clear objective to break the blockade" and reaffirm the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, while advocating for a permanent humanitarian corridor into Gaza.

The mission also aims to mobilise sustained international action and highlight what GSF describes as complicity in maintaining the blockade. The organization referenced the Brussels Declaration adopted at the first Parliamentary Congress of the Global Sumud Flotilla on April 22, asserting that "mere denunciation" of Israel and its allies is insufficient amid the ongoing occupation, closure of land routes, and denial of humanitarian access to Gaza.

GSF emphasized the necessity of acting in an integrated and differentiated manner, advocating for the construction of an international front to challenge the system sustaining the blockade. The organization outlined various strategies as part of a common approach to uphold peoples' right to self-determination. These strategies include boycotts, internal political pressure, trade union mobilisation, general strikes, and acts of non-violent civil disobedience.
