Kuala Lumpur: A total of 1,751 premises across the country have been inspected by enforcement officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) within the first three days of implementing the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025. According to BERNAMA News Agency, KPDN enforcement director-general Datuk Azman Adam reported that out of these inspections, 119 actions were taken, including two cases where traders were found selling goods above the set maximum prices.
Datuk Azman highlighted the extensive network of 2,400 officers nationwide, supported by nearly 900 price monitors, to ensure compliance with the scheme. He also mentioned the crucial role of public reports in providing information about pricing violations. The SHMMP initiative is designed to regulate the prices of essential goods during the festive season, aiming to ensure fair pricing and prevent exploitation. The government has reiterated its call for traders to adhere to the set price ceilings, warning that strict action will be imposed on violators.
Under the scheme, 26 types of goods are subjected to price control, marking an increase from 22 items last year. The newly added items include small Indian red onions, carrots, and coconut milk. Other controlled goods encompass imported buffalo meat, mackerel, mustard greens, red chilies, garlic, imported potatoes, old ginger, as well as grated and whole coconuts.
