Padang kota: More than 1,000 football fans assembled at Padang Kota to watch the match between Sabah FC and Penang FC on a giant screen. This event was organized in conjunction with the second final of the 2025/2026 Challenge Cup, held at Likas Stadium, Sabah.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the second leg of the final follows the initial match between Penang FC and Sabah FC at City Stadium, which concluded in a 1-1 draw earlier in April. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Mordi Bimol and Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) director Harry Chai Heng Hua. Both officials joined the fans to support the match, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship within the community.
Mordi stated that the big screen display was a collaborative effort by MSNPP and Penang City Council (MBPP) aimed at uniting the local community and offering supporters the chance to enjoy the match collectively in a lively atmosphere. The initiative also sought to promote unity and encourage a healthy lifestyle through leisure activities and football support.
Mohamad Rozaini Mohd Ramli, a visitor, shared his experience of bringing his entire family to watch the final match. Typically attending games at City Stadium with his eldest son, he decided to make it a family event this time. He appreciated the spacious and windy setting of Padang Kota, which provided a relaxed yet engaging environment akin to being in a stadium.
The gathering attracted a wide range of attendees, including families, youth, and tourists, highlighting the widespread enthusiasm for football among Malaysians. The fans' energetic cheers created a stadium-like atmosphere, enhancing the experience for all present.
