Kuala lumpur: The Pahang Fire and Rescue Department received 82 calls regarding open burning last month, compared to just nine cases during the same period last year. Its director, Datuk Mohd Razam Taja Rahim, said these cases involved forest, bush, and rubbish fires.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, in January 2025, the department did not receive any calls about forest fires, but last month, they recorded seven cases. Additionally, there were 65 cases of bushfires and 10 rubbish fires reported. Mohd Razam highlighted that strong winds increase the risk of fires spreading rapidly, and advised farm operators against conducting any burning activities.
The department has identified eight fire hotspots in Pahang, with one each in Pekan and Bentong, and six in Temerloh. Monitoring and patrolling activities have been intensified in these areas. In light of the upcoming Chinese New Year, Ramadan, and Syawal celebrations, Mohd Razam urged traders and the public to store sparklers and firecrackers safely and exercise caution while handling fireworks.
He also emphasized the importance of parental supervision when children are playing with sparklers and firecrackers to prevent injuries and accidents.
