Kuala lumpur: Compliance with the installation of Speed Limitation Devices (SLD) among commercial vehicle owners and operators continues to be low, as stated by Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, as of yesterday, only 15 percent of the 513,679 commercial vehicles mandated to install the devices have notified JPJ of their SLD installation, amounting to 74,552 vehicles. The remaining 85 percent, which includes 495,827 goods vehicles exceeding 3,500 kilograms and 17,852 buses carrying more than eight passengers exceeding 5,000 kilograms, have yet to comply. To address this, JPJ has initiated a Special SLD Enforcement Operation from October 1, 2025, to March 12, 2026.
During this enforcement period, 111,743 commercial vehicles were inspected, with 8,924 vehicles receiving notices for investigation under Section 114 for various compliance and functionality offenses related to speed-limiting devices. Aedy Fadly emphasized that during the two-week Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri starting today, enforcement personnel will inspect SLD Verification Certificates for buses and commercial vehicles, along with other routine checks.
Aedy Fadly noted that some companies have applied for postponements in installing these devices due to the lack of access to local hardware, necessitating overseas sourcing that requires additional time. He expressed the need to address these issues to improve compliance.
Additionally, this year's Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri will target nine major offenses that significantly contribute to road accidents, including speeding, running traffic lights, and using mobile phones while driving. A total of 288 accident hotspots have been identified nationwide, with enforcement personnel deployed and regular patrols planned to enhance road safety.
