Onam Celebration: A Bridge for Unity Among Malaysians, Says National Unity Minister

Kuala lumpur: The Onam celebration should continue to serve as a bridge that strengthens ties among communities and reinforces the spirit of togetherness in building a united and harmonious nation, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang. In an Onam message posted on his Facebook page, he emphasized the significant role the Malayali community has played in Malaysia's development journey.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aaron highlighted the language, customs, arts, cuisine, and traditions of the Malayali community as a reflection of Malaysia's rich identity and diversity. He stressed that such heritage should be preserved, empowered, and passed down to future generations to maintain cultural roots and identity amidst modernization.

Aaron, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kanowit, encouraged Malaysians to learn about the cultures and traditions of different communities. He noted that understanding and respect among communities would foster greater unity. He expressed his best wishes to the Malayali community, saying, "Happy Onam to the entire Malayali community in Malaysia. Onam Ashamsakal!"

The Malayali community in Malaysia is set to celebrate Onam tomorrow, featuring traditional festivities such as Pookalam, traditional Kasavu attire, Onam Sadya, and traditional music and dance performances.
