Kelantan: An Officer-in-Charge of a Police Station (OCS) in Kelantan is set to be suspended from duty amid an ongoing bribery investigation, allowing the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) to conduct their probes without interference.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat announced that both agencies are currently undertaking parallel investigations into the matter. The suspension process for the officer is underway and will remain in effect until the completion of these investigations.

Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat emphasized the zero-tolerance policy of the police towards officers or personnel involved in bribery or extortion. He stated, "If we have evidence, there will be no compromise. We will investigate and take action in accordance with the regulations." He reiterated his commitment to integrity, a message he has consistently conveyed to all officers and personnel since assuming his role in Kelantan.

The media had reported that the 41-year-old OCS was remanded for seven days until July 26, following a Magistrate's Court approval of a MACC application. The investigation pertains to allegations that the officer accepted a RM500 bribe to avoid taking action against a foreign national.

Mohd Yusoff described the incident as an isolated case that does not reflect the overall integrity of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Kelantan. He urged district police chiefs, division heads, and supervisors to bolster integrity monitoring efforts to effectively prevent any abuse of power.
