NUR@PETRA Programme to Launch in July to Boost Energy Efficiency

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, through the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA), is set to launch the NUR@PETRA Programme for the Domestic Category in 2026, starting next month. The initiative aims to address the supply crisis from escalating energy costs and global market uncertainties, while also advancing the nation's energy transition agenda.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, PETRA announced that the NUR@PETRA Domestic Programme is anticipated to curtail electricity consumption by 552.25 gigawatt-hours (GWh), translating to cost savings of RM250.72 million over five years. The programme is also expected to reduce Carbon Dioxide Equivalent (CO2eq) emissions by 408,655 tonnes, depending on the lifespan and efficiency of the equipment used.

Starting July 1, rebate applications for the Domestic Category will be available. PETRA has allocated 160,000 rebate units worth RM32 million for this year's implementation. Eligible domestic users can receive a RM200 rebate when purchasing energy-efficient air conditioners or refrigerators with a four- or five-star energy efficiency label from the Energy Commission (ST).

For more information on eligibility criteria, application procedures, implementation mechanisms, and the list of qualifying energy-efficient appliance brands and models under the NUR@PETRA 2026 Programme, interested parties can visit SEDA's official website at www.seda.gov.my/nur. The programme aims to encourage the adoption of energy-efficient appliances, particularly air conditioners and refrigerators, among domestic users.
