Sarawak: The number of flood evacuees at three relief centres in Sarawak has decreased to 322 from 94 families as of 8 am today, down from 415 from 123 families reported yesterday afternoon. The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) confirmed these figures, highlighting a reduction in the number of people seeking refuge due to the floods.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the JPBN reported that 121 individuals from 32 families are currently housed at the Suarah Bintulu hall, 137 individuals from 44 families at the Sebauh community hall, and 64 individuals from 18 families at the Sri Kemena hall, SMK Sebauh. The committee noted a declining trend in the number of evacuees at these relief centres.
Flooding in Sarawak commenced on December 31, triggered by continuous heavy rainfall that led to several areas in Kuching city being inundated. Meanwhile, the Drainage and Irrigation Department, through the Public Infobanjir portal, noted that as of 7.30 am today, water levels remained above the danger level at two stations, Long Teru (Miri) and Nanga Lemai B, while the Stapang B station (Sibu) reached the warning level.
The department also reported that water levels in nine other rivers were at alert points but were showing a declining trend, suggesting an improvement in the flood situation across the region.
