Cameron highlands: The Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES) will deploy geologists to Cameron Highlands to conduct studies and provide technical assistance following the flash floods incident in the area yesterday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the minister, Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, stated that the ministry would collaborate with agencies such as the Public Works Department (JKR), the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), and local authorities (PBT) to determine the cause of the incident and identify measures to prevent a recurrence. Kurup emphasized the importance of cooperation between various ministries and agencies, noting that geologists would be sent to conduct studies and provide technical assistance. A report will be issued after the studies are completed to understand what happened and how such incidents can be avoided in the future.
The flash floods were triggered by continuous heavy rain lasting more than two hours in the Habu Heights area in Cameron Highlands, Pahang. Cameron Highlands police chief Superintendent Azri Ramli reported that the heavy downpour, which started at 2 pm, caused muddy water from hilly areas to surge onto the Ringlet main road, leading to flash floods. Although no casualties were reported, two police reports were lodged regarding vehicles moved by strong currents.
