Kuala lumpur: Tan Sri Noh Omar has resigned as Bersatu Supreme Council member, effective today. In a video clip posted on Facebook, he shared that the decision was taken following actions by the party's Disciplinary Board, which he described as not respecting the Supreme Council's decision made on Jan 12 to postpone disciplinary action against members.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the council had resolved that action would only be taken against members who made statements contradicting the meeting's decisions, and not statements made before the meeting. Noh questioned the Disciplinary Board's actions, asking why it continued disciplinary measures against Bersatu members despite the Council's resolution to defer such actions. He emphasized the importance of respecting the Supreme Council's decisions, suggesting that its authority was undermined by the Board's actions.
Noh's resignation is believed to be linked to the Disciplinary Board's expulsion of 17 members, including deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, as of yesterday. He asserted that the Supreme Council had formed a committee to strengthen the party, chaired by Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim, aimed at restoring unity within the party. However, he alleged that the Disciplinary Board acted against members involved before these efforts were implemented.
Noh acknowledged that every party has the right to enforce disciplinary measures, but stressed that such actions should comply with the party's regulations and constitution, emphasizing that no one is above the law. He suggested that if the Supreme Council intended to reverse the Jan 12 decision and allow the Disciplinary Board to continue its actions, a special meeting should have been convened. However, he noted that no such meeting took place, and the Board proceeded with its actions independently.
