Johor KPDN Seizes Prayer Lamps Worth RM56,791 In Copyright Raid

Johor bahru: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) of Johor yesterday busted the sale of prayer lamps around Batu Pahat and Johor Bahru for suspected copyright infringement. Its director, Lilis Saslinda Pornomo, said the seizure was done through raids on three separate locations, a storage warehouse and two premises selling prayer items for the Chinese community.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the raid was conducted after about a month of intelligence gathering and monitoring of the two premises, in cooperation with the copyright owners. "Initial inspections found that the warehouse and premises had infringed registered and copyright-protected artistic works. Further inspection by the copyright owner led to the seizure of 818 prayer lamps valued at RM56,791.86," she stated.

"This case is being investigated under the Copyright Act 1987," she added, noting that her department is also investigating whether there is a link between the warehouse and the premises.
