Gombak: There is no place in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) for members who refuse to work and instead choose to sulk and complain to the point of neglecting their mandate to strengthen the party and advance its struggle, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The PKR president stressed that the mandate entrusted by the people to the party leadership, whether at the federal or state level, is not a licence to boast about positions or titles, but a responsibility to work diligently for the people and the country.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized that those unwilling to work should step down, as the party has significant tasks ahead and cannot afford to waste time on unconstructive complaints. He expressed these sentiments during his speech at the Selangor PKR Convention 2026 held in Gombak. Anwar, who also serves as Prime Minister, warned against a half-hearted approach to responsibilities, highlighting that excessive complaining without action would only weaken the party.
Anwar urged members to embody the spirit of PKR, which involves moving forward and breaking barriers to achieve real change. He called for members prepared to step forward with a clear and firm spirit of struggle, aligning with the party's principles of delivering meaningful change to the country. Anwar acknowledged the challenges inherent in political struggle but insisted that PKR members must remain disciplined, focusing on unity and rejecting politics based on racial and religious division.
He reiterated PKR's commitment to the Federal Constitution as the foundation of its struggle, advocating for the collective strength of people regardless of race or background. Anwar highlighted the diversity within PKR, noting the presence of Malays, Chinese, and Indians as the party's strength, emphasizing that PKR was built on principles of justice and unity rather than narrow racial sentiments.
Anwar also urged the entire party machinery, including branch and division levels, to remain united in defending rights and truth, ensuring PKR's continued status as a multi-racial party that champions the interests of all Malaysians. The one-day convention saw the attendance of several PKR leaders, including deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar, vice-presidents Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, as well as secretary-general Datuk Fuziah Saleh.
