Kuala lumpur: The National Registration Department (NRD): has advised the public not to rush to replace their MyKad as the existing identity card remains valid for all official transactions, including the redemption of subsidies and government assistance.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the NRD stated that the issuance of the New Structure MyKad would commence only after its launch by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with the date yet to be announced. Initially, the rollout will occur in phases at the NRD headquarters in Putrajaya and 18 selected offices, utilizing an appointment system before a nationwide expansion.
The NRD aims to ensure a smooth and orderly implementation while avoiding congestion at service counters. Priority for the New Structure MyKad issuance will be given to applicants making appointments through the NRD Appointment System and holders of Plastic Identity Cards (KPP), High Quality Identity Cards (KPT), and MyKad Version 1 (without ghost image).
Holders of KPP, KPT, and MyKad Version 1 have a three-year window to replace them with the New Structure MyKad. The NRD assured that personal data and information security for MyKad holders would remain protected through enhanced security features and data protection measures established by the government.
