Johor bahru: UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that there was no discussion regarding the Johor state election during the recent meeting with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, nor at the UMNO Supreme Council (MT) meeting held today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the audience and photo session with His Majesty and the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, at Istana Besar Johor, were part of UMNO's 80th anniversary celebration. Dr Ahmad Zahid emphasized that the historical significance of the venue, where UMNO was established on May 11, 1946, was the focus of the occasion rather than political discussions.
Following the UMNO Supreme Council meeting at the Johor UMNO Liaison Committee building, Dr Ahmad Zahid briefed reporters. He was joined by deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan; vice-presidents Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani; secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki; and Johor UMNO chief, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who is also the Johor Menteri Besar.
Dr Ahmad Zahid clarified that the meeting covered major national issues but reiterated that the Johor state election was not part of the agenda. He mentioned that any decision regarding the Johor state election timing, especially in relation to Melaka, would be made after consulting Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz and obtaining consent from His Majesty the King and the Regent of Johor.
He also commended the Johor State Government under the leadership of Onn Hafiz, highlighting the increase in state revenue which has facilitated equitable distribution to all societal segments without discrimination. Dr Ahmad Zahid expressed hope that the prosperity achieved would be valued by all residents of Johor.
