Kampung chatel: The new Sungai Chatel Damai steel bridge in Kampung Chatel, Lata Rek, Kelantan has ended more than three decades of connectivity struggles for locals, said the Implementation Coordination Unit under the Prime Minister's Department (ICU JPM) in a statement today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the bridge was completed in six weeks, from January 29 to March 11, demonstrating the government's commitment to ensuring rural communities are not left behind in the country's development. The MADANI Government has illustrated its dedication to the people's future by resolving a long-standing transport issue with the completion of this bridge.
The statement highlighted that this strategic project aligns with the agenda of compassion and social justice, ensuring that rural areas keep pace with national modernisation. The bridge was officially handed over to the Kelantan Selatan Development Authority (KESEDAR) today, marking a significant milestone for the community.
The new bridge not only ensures safer travel for locals but also facilitates smoother economic activities in the area. It was constructed following a direct order from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to ICU JPM on January 2. The rapid completion of this infrastructure project underscores the MADANI Government's focus on enhancing rural well-being.
The bridge, measuring 36 metres in length and three metres in width, can support vehicles up to five tonnes, thus transforming accessibility in the region. Where previously only motorcycles and bicycles could traverse, now cars and light trucks can pass, improving connectivity significantly ahead of Aidilfitri celebrations.
