Kuala Lampur:The Nepalese government has agreed to expedite the verification process for 55 Malaysians who are still missing after severe floods hit the country, as announced by Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the agreement was communicated by Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah to Malaysia's Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during a recent discussion between the two leaders.
Fahmi stated in a press conference that following this discussion, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim directed Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar to engage in further talks with Nepalese authorities promptly. These discussions are expected to address legal aspects and court jurisdiction related to the situation.
The floods and debris flow event on August 26, triggered by a glacial collapse in the Lhende Khola area of Tibet, has resulted in 1,451 confirmed fatalities. Additionally, approximately 5,700 people, including over 600 foreign nationals, are reported missing.
