Malaysia Awaits Indonesia’s Response on Haze Assistance

Jakarta:Malaysia is still waiting for Indonesia's reply regarding its offer to help extinguish forest and land fires that are causing cross-border haze.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysia's MADANI Government Spokesperson, Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, stated that the haze issue was discussed in a recent Cabinet meeting. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi briefed the meeting on his discussions with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto about leveraging Malaysian resources to combat the fires in Indonesia.

Fahmi noted that despite the discussions, there has been no response from Indonesia to the note sent by Malaysia's Wisma Putra. Malaysia is continuing to follow official channels and maintain direct discussions between the countries' leaderships.

Previously, Ahmad Zahid mentioned that Malaysia had received preliminary approval from Indonesia to send assistance for the fire-fighting efforts. This agreement came during his meeting with the Indonesian President in Jakarta. The proposed assistance includes the deployment of a Bombardier CL-415MP aircraft, three helicopters, and 52 officers and personnel from various Malaysian agencies.

Despite the haze, Fahmi expressed optimism that significant events in Malaysia, such as the Gulf Air Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix, the Le Tour de Langkawi 2026 cycling tour, and the Standard Chartered Marathon, will proceed smoothly. He added that the situation could improve with occasional rainfall.
