Nearly RM330 Million Required to Repair Infrastructure Damaged by Northeast Monsoon

Kuala lumpur: The Works Ministry has projected that approximately RM327.8 million is necessary to address the destruction of public infrastructure caused by the Northeast Monsoon. Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that this estimated amount encompasses RM225.9 million dedicated to road repairs, RM47.4 million for non-pavement component works along federal roads, and roughly RM54.5 million for restoring slopes.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the figure is derived from current damage reports and could increase if additional assessments reveal further destruction. Minister Nanta assured that the ministry has adequate funding for immediate repairs but emphasized ongoing monitoring of the monsoon season’s development. He noted that the situation is currently manageable and not as severe as previous years, expressing hope that conditions do not deteriorate.

Minister Nanta further mentioned that the ministry has a core budget for urgent repair tasks. In cases where costs surpass the allocated budget, additional funding requests will be directed to the Economy Ministry and the Finance Ministry. Highlighting the government’s dedication to handling monsoon-related challenges, he referenced the recent approval of a RM500 million special allocation by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. This fund aims to repair flood-affected infrastructure across several states, with a significant portion coordinated through NADMA.

CIDB Malaysia chief executive Zainora Zainal was also in attendance during the announcement event, which coincided with the launch of CIDB’s new Construction Personnel Registration Card.
