KUALA LUMPUR: The National Franchise Policy Document 2030 (DFN 2030) is slated for presentation at the Cabinet Meeting tomorrow, as announced by Datuk Ewon Benedick, Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development. The policy aims to enhance Malaysia’s franchise ecosystem through strategic reforms and expanded market access.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, DFN 2030 is structured around five primary pillars: enhancing policies and governance, promoting franchises as a favored business model, boosting the capacity and capability of franchise entrepreneurs, improving access to financial resources, and widening market access both domestically and internationally. These pillars were outlined during the Minister’s Question Time session in Dewan Rakyat, where Ewon addressed inquiries from Young Syefura Othman (PH-Bentong) about current statistics on franchise entrepreneurs and the ministry’s global aspirations for the franchise industry.
Ewon also discussed KUSKOP’s franchise data cleansing initiative, lin
ked to the 2022 amendment to the Franchise Act 1998. This amendment requires franchise registration renewal every five years, facilitating better regulatory oversight of franchise business development. Additionally, KUSKOP is advancing the international promotion of local franchises through the Enhanced Franchise Development Program (EFDP), which allocates RM2.7 million for 2025. This funding covers participation in global exhibitions, business matching, export cost reimbursement for Intellectual Property registration abroad, and training for international expansion.
Strategic partnerships are also being formed with the Malaysian Franchise Association to enhance the global competitiveness of Malaysian brands. As of October 31, the Malaysia Franchise Express 2.0 (MyFEX 2.0) system recorded 3,565 franchise entrepreneurs, comprising 1,310 franchisors and 2,255 franchisees. The MyFEX 2.0 platform streamlines the registration process for franchise companies in Malaysia, facilitating applications for both franchis
ors and franchisees.
