Putrajaya: More than 100,000 people attended the 2026 National Day celebration here today, surpassing the initial target of 80,000, said Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi, who is also chairman of the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) Main Committee, stated that all preparations had proceeded smoothly according to schedule, with favourable weather throughout the celebration. He expressed gratitude for the successful execution of the event, noting the absence of any untoward incidents.
Fahmi extended his appreciation to the public who attended, including individuals from Sandakan, Johor Bahru, and Jeli. He remarked on the nationwide participation in celebrating this significant day, highlighting the excellent atmosphere at the event.
The successful orchestration of the celebration was attributed to the close cooperation among various agencies such as the Department of Environment (DOE), Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), and National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA). Fahmi mentioned that these agencies were prepared to conduct cloud seeding if necessary, ensuring an uninterrupted celebration.
Attendees also had the opportunity to engage in various activities following the parade, including viewing national defense assets displayed at Anjung Floria and participating in Riuh Merdeka at Monumen Alaf Baru. Fahmi noted the presence of numerous food trucks and recreational activities available for families.
Fahmi expressed hope that the 69th National Day celebration would further strengthen Malaysians' love for their country and urged everyone to work together to preserve unity and safeguard Malaysia. He underscored the theme, 'Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati', reflecting the government's commitment to fostering a developed, harmonious, and prosperous nation.
The celebration featured a parade with 76 contingents, 22 marching bands, and 11 decorated vehicles, involving 10,819 participants from various sectors including government agencies, security forces, and educational institutions. Highlights included the debut appearance of the Royal Johor Military Force, the SEA Games 2027 contingent, and the Orange Economy Sustainability cluster contingent.
A unique 'Gema Inovasi MADANI' percussion performance showcased the nation's cultural heritage, involving 150 percussionists and 1,500 human graphic performers. The event concluded with a spectacular display by the Royal Malaysian Air Force and a closing performance titled 'Rentak MADANI, Paluan Tradisi', featuring 2,350 participants.
