Shah alam: The 2025 National Couriers Day (HKN 2025) celebrations will take place at Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC), Selangor today to honour the over 120,000 couriers who form the backbone of Malaysia’s e-commerce and digital economic growth that is currently worth RM6.9 billion annually.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Association of Malaysian Express Carriers (AMEC) Ronald Tan stated that the celebrations, which will be officiated by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, are not merely an annual affair but a vital platform to strengthen the direction of the courier industry towards a more inclusive, sustainable, and people-oriented model. Tan highlighted the dedication of couriers who consistently deliver packages, connecting people, businesses, and economic opportunities.
The focus of this year’s celebration is the launch of the Courier Network Sharing Framework (CNSF), a first-ever initiative in ASEAN that allows local and international courier companies to share capacity, data, and infrastructure to ensure the industry remains balanced, efficient, and competitive. Ronald Tan, who is also the City-Link Express chief executive officer, explained that 90 percent of the domestic market is dominated by foreign players. CNSF was created to encourage cooperation, not competition, between all parties to maintain a fair, safe, and efficient courier ecosystem.
The initiative, jointly developed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Communications Ministry, reflects the Malaysia MADANI principles based on justice, inclusivity, and economic sovereignty. The implementation will be done in phases with monitoring by MCMC to ensure compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act and industry service standards.
Malaysia’s courier industry recorded growth from 52 million packages in 2015 to 1.26 billion in 2024 and is expected to exceed 1.4 billion in 2025, making it one of the most dynamic logistics sectors in the region. Ronald emphasized the commitment to ensuring the courier industry remains sustainable, competitive, and people-oriented in collaboration with MCMC and the Communications Ministry.
This year’s celebrations will include the signing of a letter of collaboration between Shopee and Malaysia’s major courier companies, City-Link Express, GDEX, Pos Malaysia, and SPX Express, as an effort to improve e-commerce logistics in the country. The signing will be witnessed by Fahmi, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching, Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, and MCMC managing director Abdul Karim Fakir Ali.
The launch of the Code of Practice for Postal Services (CPPS) will also be held as a first self-supervisory measure by the national courier sector to raise the quality of service, consumer protection, and employee welfare.
