Kuala lumpur: The National Anti-Corruption Plan initiative has underscored the vital role of higher education institutions (IPTs) as the first line of defence in the fight against corruption in the country.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), in a statement today, highlighted that the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Course (KIAR), a compulsory General Studies (MPU) subject in all IPTs as well as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, is a key instrument in nurturing an integrity-savvy generation.
The statement noted that through comprehensive modules covering key legislation such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, KIAR aims to shape a generation that understands, rejects, and stands firmly against corruption in all aspects of life, in line with the National Anti-Corruption Plan.
UPNM emphasized that the impact of the pedagogy cannot be measured within a single term but is reflected in every decision made by graduates throughout their careers. The university also addressed the ongoing public discourse on integrity issues in the country's IPTs, asserting that the generalization of 'IPT Lubuk Rasuah' should be addressed based on facts rather than prejudice.
Furthermore, UPNM stated that it did not compromise on governance and remained open to improving its systems to close any room for irregularities. The university reiterated that efforts to combat corruption are a unified effort that requires the commitment of various parties, including institutions, individuals, and society.
