NADMA Urged To Review Aid Conditions For Flood Victims – Kapit MP

Kapit: The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) has been urged to review the qualification conditions for receiving aid, particularly the RM1,000 cash aid currently given to those who evacuate to relief centres.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi made the suggestion based on feedback from flood victims in Gawan and Juin Houses, Tatai Sempaong, Baleh during his visit as Kapit MP. Nanta Linggi noted that many victims did not evacuate to relief centres during last month’s floods due to lack of transport and concerns about leaving their belongings behind. He emphasized that even RM500 would be beneficial in reducing their burden if they do not qualify for the full RM1,000 aid.

In addition to cash aid, flood evacuees also received food aid from the authorities. Sarawak deputy premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who chairs the state disaster management committee, reiterated the state government’s commitment to helping flood victims who did not evacuate to relief centres. He stated that the committee would need confirmation from the district office and to assess the victims’ reasons before providing any aid. Uggah Embas assured that aid would be provided if the reasons given were deemed reasonable.
