N.Sembilan PMR: 40 Pct of Helmets Exchanged Failed Safety Standards

Kuala lumpur: About 40 per cent of helmets exchanged under the Free Helmet Exchange Programme at the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) in Dataran Nilai were found not to meet the required standards. Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf stated that the helmets detected as non-compliant included those without the SIRIM certification mark, cracked helmets, helmets without padding, and half-shell helmets still in use.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hanif emphasized the importance of wearing a proper helmet in reducing the risk of injury in the event of an accident. He noted that most fatal accident cases are caused by head injuries, underscoring the need for helmets that are worn correctly, bear the SIRIM mark, and comply with safety standards to significantly reduce the risk of death.

Earlier, Negeri Sembilan JPJ, in collaboration with the Transport Ministry, provided 3,000 adult helmets over three days, as well as 700 bottles of engine oil for motorcyclists to benefit from free oil changes.
