Kuala Lampur:The Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) and the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in areas of common interest, amid increasing cross-border business activities.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MoU establishes a framework for both authorities to collaborate on information exchange, knowledge sharing, capacity building, technical cooperation, and enforcement matters with cross-border implications, all within the bounds of their respective laws and confidentiality requirements.
The MyCC highlighted the importance of this cooperation due to the substantial flow of business activities between Malaysia and Singapore, where companies often operate in both markets or have commercial interests in each.
The agreement also addresses the impact of technological advancements and digital markets, which are transforming the way goods and services are offered across borders. Beyond enforcement cooperation, it enables officials from both entities to exchange insights on competition law developments, share institutional experiences, and build expertise in mutually beneficial areas.
The MoU was signed by MyCC Chief Executive Officer Datuk Iskandar Ismail and CCS Chief Executive Alvin Koh, and witnessed by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohd Sayuthi Bakar and Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary Dr. Beh Swan Gin.
This agreement marks the fifth international MoU for MyCC, representing a significant milestone in its strategy to expand and deepen international engagements with competition authorities. Iskandar described the MoU as a key advancement in the enduring relationship between MyCC and CCS, emphasizing the growing importance of international cooperation for addressing conduct and market trends that transcend national boundaries. He noted that strong competition enforcement relies not only on laws but also on the strength of the institutions tasked with upholding them. For MyCC, this MoU presents an opportunity to learn from diverse approaches and continue enhancing the execution of its mandate for the benefit of the public.
